Before the early twentieth century, Americans either swayed republican or democratic, but as the country reached the 1900s liberal and conservative ideals surfaced into many citizens’ mindsets. Liberals were people with modern ideas and believed that in order to better the American society, there needed to be room for change. Conservatives, however, believed in tradition and had strong beliefs on sticking to the original way of life in America. President Herbert Hoover, who was seen as a conservative, was elected in 1929. Under the republican party, many Americans liked him because he worked his way to the top.
Liberals oppose traditional conservatism and seek to replace absolutism in the government with representative democracy and the rule of law. This conservatism versus liberalism debate has been going fruitlessly for over centuries now. It started with the American civil war and the French resistance with no conclusive answer and mutual agreement as yet. The United States is known for its political system consisting of two parties: the Republicans and the Democrats. In this essay we will discuss the similarities and differences between these parties. Democratic Party was founded in late 1920s, and this is the oldest political party in the world that still exists. The most recent Democratic President is Barack Obama, who has served since 2009. Other famous leaders of this party are John Kennedy, Bill Clinton, and Jimmy Carter.

Conservatives are mostly against same sex marriage because it goes against family values. They may also be against it because “Jesus hates same sex couples”.
Liberals began a process of change. Liberals are people who are pushing for freedom, equality, democracy and human rights. They are individuals who believe that the government must take action to change economic, political, and ideological policies and structures that may be unfair. In this way, Liberals show progress by fighting for a change that the government has to make, being the head of the nation. An example is the conservatives wanting less government power in the 1920s.
For a long time, political parties have shaped how people assess governmental affairs and how they organize themselves in society. Generally, political parties seek to resemble the political ideologies on which they are based to provide people with a universal worldview and philosophical stance from which to approach reality (Breaugh, Jan 18). Yet, is it true that political parties always, and in all cases, accurately reflect the political ideologies on which they are based? In this paper, I will discuss four claims from the conservative and liberal parties of Canada. I will start by analyzing two claims from the conservative party and two claims from the liberal party to draw differences and similarities between them and assess whether both parties stick to the political ideologies they seek to represent.
Traditionally, based on the political spectrum, these beliefs are referenced as “left or right.” Liberals are represented by the democratic party and are often referred to as the left wing, Liberals tend to have an optimistic view and feel that the people should be free and able to pursue their own

Thomas Jefferson, the author of the declaration of independence, was heavily influenced by Locke’s beliefs. Jefferson believed that all men were created equal, which is a liberal view. The Constitution was also a liberal document that was important in this revolution. The first ten amendments of the Constitution, also known as the Bill of Rights, granted natural born rights, an idea that the liberal thinkers developed and believed in. Liberalism as it pertains to the 1700s means to believe in freedom and equal rights.
Conservatism was an ideology in which people had ideas and beliefs to preserve the current order. Conservatives believed in tradition over reason and in the hierarchy of birth rather than liberals, who believed in the hierarchy of merit. Conservatives believed in security and stability as well. One of their great leaders, Otto von Bismarck, created social programs, health programs, and guaranteed retirement programs for society. Conservatives believed that being loyal to the state will insure that you will be protected by the state.
