What is a democracy? A democracy is a government in which the supreme power is vested in the people and exercised by them directly or indirectly through a system of representation usually involving periodically held free elections. Two big empires are/were ruled under a democracy, which was Ancient Greek and Modern day America. But what are the differences and similarities of two empires ruled by the same style of government, ruled in 2 completely different time periods? Ancient Greece (Athens) started ruling as an empire in the years 8th century BC. This made up less than 30% of the total population of Greece. This is similar and different to the democracy we follow in the United States in modern day because there is certain requirements to participate in the elections. But at the same time, it’s different because of the requirements and the people who are allowed to vote, vary from those who were allowed to vote in the 8th century BC. Nowadays the requirement is that one must turn 18 on, or before Election Day to be able to vote, and also one must be a US citizen and must meet the state residency requirements to be able to vote. This said there isn’t a gender discrimination anymore, men and women are able to vote on the nation’s leader, and there is a bit more variety on who can vote, like naturalized citizens, something that would of
