Simon was skinny and had black hair. Simon was a loner who often experienced fainting spells. He always wander into the jungle to think by himself. He always sees beyond the surface of things, so he often thinking alone and be a loner. The other boys were indifferent towards Simon because he was not extremely social (page 38, no one be close to Simon). He helped others with necessary things, such as building the huts and taking care of the Littluns (page 50). Also, he was very intelligent to create his own kind of light and knowing a lots of knowledge.

As the novel goes on Simon is gradually alienated. Simon becomes brave in the face of danger. He is the only person to confront the beastie and find out the truth that the beastie is Littluns
