What seems to confuse her the most was not the physical violence she encountered but the verbal violence she was a victim of. “I am not,” she said tearfully, “a warthog from hell.” (pg 24) But her denying it didn’t seem to help, Ruby did not believe she deserved to be attacked in that way, “She had been singled out for the message, though there was trash in the room to whom it might justly applied to. ”(24)
However, even though she is a caring sister, there is another side to Squeaky. Squeaky is a skillful person at running. There are a lot of examples
The story A Rough Handshake by Alberto Alvaro Ríos is about Rios describing going through a town on the Mexico-US border called Nogales. He talks about the different buildings and places while explaining things he would do there as a kid. He explains how things are changing in his home town, mostly for the worst. I believe that the most significant moment in this story is when Rios is remembering the cartoon clock that would pop up before the movie would start at the drive-in movie theater, which is now just a swamp. Rios writes “This unforgettable clock helped us understand that nothing was static or absolute in this place, that something like a minute could have many definitions.”
She would make a lot of statements that would not add up. If her second husband had died, she would gain a lot of properties and money. Another gain would be some benefits since he recently was awarded a sum of cash for being a Vietnam War Veteran. She would always joke that if she were going to try and have someone murdered, she would simply do it herself because she learned her lesson the from the first
In the article “No Spanking, No Time-out, No Problems”, Olga Khazan uses many rhetorical strategies to support and persuade her audience. That traditional punishment methods of parents will not change a child’s/children’s unruly behavior overall, but positive reinforcement will increase the chances of better behavior not only now, but in the future as well. “Positive reinforcement is the presentation of a pleasurable consequence following a behavior” (Craighead). This twist to traditional discipline teaches children to work towards a resolution instead of teaching them to lean toward violence. “For example, the way that parents discipline their children is how children discipline their peers” (Khazan).
Writers tend to use various methods when attempting to persuade their reader. Although numerous approaches exist when discussing persuasion, in the article “No Spanking, No Time-Out, No Problem” writer Olga Khazan persuades her reader by explaining the issues and offering better improving techniques, using rhetoric devices such as pathos, and by using tone of voice. Khazan explains the controversial topic of punishing one’s child by attempting to persuade parents to change their disciplining style (Khazan). Khazan proposes his purpose that though punishment might make a parent feel more at peace with themselves, it will not correct the child’s bad behavior (Khazan).

Smacking is Distinct from Child Abuse (Personal Response) The article ‘Smacking is Distinct from Child Abuse’ published in the Herald Sun on October 16th 2009, written by Cheryl Critchley discusses Critchley views and opinions on whether or not smacking is child abuse. A claim made by Critchley in her first two sentences is that if parents do smack their children they are accused of child abuse and not being able to control their kids. If parents don’t smack their kids then it’s the opposite, they are thought to be ‘soft touches’ who let their kids run wild.
It was a challenge because she would talk to me when i was trying to go to sleep or when I was doing (trying)to do my homework. But then how i went thought it is that my mom and daddy fixed by putting an Invisible line in the room .
The author of the novel that I decided to read this week is Walter Dean Myers and the name of the novel is Kick. This novel is about a boy named Kevin and he had never been in trouble before, but he did and he went to juvenile hall. He was a good kid, caught between a rock and a hard place when a female friend asks for his help. He got caught driving her in her father's car, after causing a small accident, but cannot explain the why he was with the girl without getting his friend in trouble.
As a result, she suffered major injuries when the dogs turned on her. Sparapani said the dog of the woman only suffered non-serious injuries and did not need treatment.
and she knows that. She had “yellow eyes, pink teeth, red fingernails, and dark hair on her arms and chest” (225). The doctors called her a “Freak of nature”, and they thought that she couldn’t hear them because of the “mewing” she did. (225) Just hearing that I am sure made her feel even worse than she had before. It wasn’t hard to see that she was different.
They get loud and rowdy, they stomp their hooves outside their stall. This scared me at first but I learned that they are just big babies. They are very sweet but just like a small child they get upset when they want something and even more upset when they don’t get what they want. Watching them act out this way helped me have more patience towards everything, horses and humans alike.
Returning to college has been an exciting and terrifying decision for me. My husband has encouraged me for 1-2 years, but my fear of failure overwhelmed me and kept me from pursuing my Bachelor’s Degree. I wasn’t even sure what I wanted to pursue. I’m now on this journey and ready for whatever it is that God has planned for me. I have worked hard encouraged my three kids as they transitioned their way through elementary school through middle school and on to high school and graduation.
