There are always two different sides to every story just like slavery. People either support it or they don’t. In my opinion, it is one of the worst things that has happened in America. Slavery has caused war, ruined families, and have broken souls. Slaves were considered property and were sold and bought. They had no human rights and were servants for their entire lives. It was eventually abolished in the North because they opposed the practice of slavery but the South didn't agree with them and kept their slaves. The disagreement between the North and the South eventually led to the Civil War. These victims would run away to the North to go have the freedom they have always desired. In the bible there is a couple of scriptures indicating how God wanted the masters to treat their slaves, and how the slaves should treat their masters. God wanted us to know there is a master above, therefore he made us practice slavery as a way to prepare us for how he wants us to obey him. “Slavery was part of a divine plan for promoting the general progress of civilization and elevating… humanity” (170). In Colossians 4:1, it says, “Masters, treat your slaves justly and fairly, knowing that you also have a Master in heaven”, and in Ephesians 6:5, it says, “Slaves, obey your earthly masters with fear and trembling, with a sincere heart, as you would Christ.” Another argument was that slaves were saved from their homes, it was believed that they were incapable of taking care of themselves. In addition, Southerners had different justifications and honored different social ideals. “The pro slavery ranks were united on the race and gender tangle: on the place for white women and the importance of keeping the blacks on the social bottom.” The southerners thought slaves were less human than whites were.
