Slide 1 - Today, we are going to talk about and review context clues. Keep in mind by the end of this lesson, each of you should be able to determine the meaning of a word by using clues provided in the context or information from a sentence or passage. Based on the context clue pre-assessment each of you took on Quizizz, we need to practice so more practice with context clues. But, first, we, are going to watch a BrainPOP video about context clues. (1 minute)

In this lesson, we will refer to these as context clue strategies. Remember a strategy is a plan of action to achieve or reach a goal.”
Slide 8 – Here are the different strategies we are going to discuss today.
Slide 9 – The first strategy is when an author uses the definition to figure out the meaning of the unknown word. Some of the signal words you can look for while reading is (are, is, is called, means, or). Look at the example sentence, “Jack is an arrogant person. He thinks he is more important than others.” (Point to the picture located on the PowerPoint and anchor chart.)
Slide 10 – The second strategy is used is an example. This example simply gives you an example of the unknown word that helps improve your understanding of the word. The signal words that you as a reader need to look for are (such as, for example, for instance, like, and including). For example, let’s read the example sentence, “Jenna was suffering from anxiety. For example, at the end of the test, she began to erase her answers in a panic.” (Refer to picture and anchor chart
