When discussing smacking, there are a myriad of topics, theories and debates that can be brought up, especially should smacking children be banned which is one of the major issues in our current society. Smacking has been happening everyday in our daily life and we are able to clearly see it in our society. No matter where we come from or the different cultural backgrounds, we are growing up with at least getting smacked by their parents once in our childhood’s lives. However, smacking should be banned and not legalised by the governments in a way to protect the children. I believe that everyone, including the parents, when they were growing up, didn't want to get punishment from their parents as well. The parents understand that those punishments lead to feelings of fear, anxiety and low self-esteem. Moreover, they must know corporal punishment can strain the parent-children relationship. It can erode trust, create a hostile environment, and hinder the development of a secure attachment bond between the child and their parents. For evidence, Australian Institute of Family Studies state that Corporal punishment has negative effects on mental health and part of the reason is because corporal punishment tends to go alongside experiences of child abuse and neglect. This illustrates the use of physical punishment is often accompanied by other forms of mistreatment, leading to increased harm and detrimental impacts on children's well-being. The child’s childhood is being destroyed by their own parents, and the negative impact will follow them for the rest of their life. Additionally, Professor Daryl Higgins from the Australian Catholic University says “Smacking almost doubled their risk of mental health issues in young adulthood such as anxiety and depression”. As a society, we are challenged to create a peaceful and fair society which is the reason we attempt to avoid and forbid various violence from every stage. Similarly allowing parents to smack the children is just a way to stop us from achieving our goal since smacking teaches the children violence is acceptable. They will definitely use corporal punishment in the future when they face difficulties in their life. For instance, research from the University of Toronto suggests that children who grow up in environments where smacking is banned or discouraged tend to exhibit fewer behaviour problems. This indicates that the children are more likely to develop self-control, empathy as they learn alternative ways to manage their emotions and resolve conflicts without resorting to violence. They are able to solve every problem by using discipline methods beside using violence. In addition, the NSCPP believes that over a long time, smacking can make children resentful and the relationship with parents and carers harmed. Young children probably don’t understand why a parent is angry or what behaviour is required from them, punishing them is just making them get a sense of fear and do not want to communicate with the parents anymore which makes the family’s relationship
