Did you know smoking cigarettes is the leading cause of preventable disease and death in the United States, accounting for more than 480,000 deaths every year? Smoking cigarettes has been around for many years but the time has come to show the effects it has on the human body and try to r educe future smoking. People who do smoke should stop to reduce health issues, help improve our environment, stop second hand smoke, and to encourage our future generation to not smoke. There are many facts to conclude smoking is far from good for you. More than ten times as many U.S. citizens have died prematurely from smoking cigarettes than have died in all the wars fought by the United States during its history. Ninety percent of all lung cancer deaths in men and women are caused by smoking. 250 chemicals are known to be harmful out of 7,000 chemicals, in tobacco smoke, including hydrogen cyanide, carbon monoxide, and ammonia. It causes cancers of the lungs, esophagus, larynx, mouth, throat, kidney, bladder, liver, pancreas, stomach, cervix, colon, and rectum, as well as acute myeloid leukemia. Smoking causes heart disease, stroke, aortic aneurysm, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), diabetes, osteoporosis, rheumatoid arthritis, age-related muscular degeneration, and cataracts, and worsens asthma symptoms in adults. T hat’s taking a lot of risks every time you smoke tobacco but those are far from all the risks! For women it’s harder to get pregnant if you smoke.
