Social mores are those unwritten rules that dictate how we act in public. They are the things that irritate the general public, like when a person is walking on the “wrong side” of the sidewalk. No law governs which side a person should use, but society expects that one would use the same as what they would drive. If a person enters an elevator and faces the back rather than the front, not only will it make others uncomfortable, but it will be uncomfortable for that person as well. In a similar fashion, attempting to go against the socially expected behaviors for one’s gender is uncomfortable to the point of avoidance.

From the beginning, social cognitive theory was known as social learning theory by Bandura, then it was broadened into social cognitive theory in 1986. Social cognitive theory states that learning occurs when people interact with each other in a society. Social cognitive theory allows us to use the principles of observation to learn things, in other words, everything that we learn is gained through the observations and the interaction with other people. Therefore, based on his research, an argument can be made about the relationship between playing violent video games and our current violent society. About majority of our current video games are games that are based on combat, war, crimes, fights, duels, etc. People can make the argument that violent video games lead to people committing crimes in real life. However, the other side of this argument is that violent video games do not make people violent.
