The cold war was the period of conflict and tension between the Soviet Union (and its satellite states), and the United States of America (and its NATO allies and others). This war is called the ‘’cold ’’ war because it is a proxy war which is a constructed war where the superpowers are indirectly involved.
The Soviet Union was not solely to blame for the cold war because USA also contributed to the cause of the war. They all triggered the cold war and therefore, they were all to blame, not just the Soviet Union.
In source A, we see Stalin (USSR) reaching over the poker table and reaching for all the poker chips (countries) while Churchill (Britain) and Roosevelt (USA) are sitting back and letting Stalin (USSR) take control. This source is implying that Stalin (USSR) is benefiting from the cold war while the others are just bystanders in the ‘game’ and are not actually playing the ‘game’. …show more content…

This is illustrated in source C which is Germany getting divided into 3 zones at the Yalta conference (when Germany was losing the war) and the Big Three (Stalin, Roosevelt and Churchill) then decided that the USSR would have control over the over the Easter Europe called the Soviet sphere of influence. Stalin believed that this was to protect Russia after 20 million deaths of his nation, he did not want any more deaths and therefore he was given Eastern Europe. Stalin forced communism on all the countries in Eastern Europe which is shown in source D, which states that Stalin had ‘’executed the leaders of all the other parties’’ and ‘’arrested all the non-Communist leaders in 1945, and the communists forced the other non-communist into exile’’.
