In the words of Nelson Mandela, “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” However, it is of my viewpoint that the functionality of the educational system is dependent on the effectiveness of its educators. Most importantly, the level of advancement and professional development pursued by an educator increases the likelihood of overall student success. Thus, I take this opportunity to present relevant information that will assist the Admission’s Committee in justifying my application for the Special Education Master’s Program.
Primarily, my overall undergraduate experience was one that offered exposure regarding methodologies, best practices and philosophies in the educational domain. Incorporated in many courses were a combination of student/teacher observations, research papers, internships and ingenuity. An example of such courses included Child Development, which introduced developmental milestones that children undergo at specific age ranges. For instance, it was my obligation to satisfy full-time scholarship requirements and fulfill the demands of a full-time job. Another notable accomplishment consisted of the nine out of ten dean’s list honors attained. Unfortunately, I encountered a one time lapse in performance which encouraged even greater effort on my part as I progressed.
Moreover, continued advancement of skills within my field are sought out through participation in up to forty (40) hours of professional development yearly. I have played the role of observer and facilitator for conferences with concentrations in technology integration, intervention, and improvement of literacy and numeracy skills. As I reflect upon the level of preparation attained within the field of education, I can truly say that my college experience served as an excellent
