Standardized tests are disadvantageous to the students and the economy. How many hours a day do someone spend studying for a standardized test because someone thinks if you fail it will reflect bad on that person? Standardized tests can have those affects. Not also this, lowering standardized tests can lead to better results, the test can cause these kids and teens academic knowledge to be based off of it, and it costs billions of dollars each year, just to take the test. The primary reason that standardized testing is unnecessary is because fewer can lead to better results. For example, if the test scores are low, they sometimes see the teachers or the staff ineffective. Not only the teachers and staff, but the students. Some of the parents and teachers do not understand why these tests measure the academic level of a student (Popham). On top of that, standardized tests cost billions of dollars and that money will continue to grow each year. Statistics show that 1.7 billion dollars is spent on testing. We spend $67 to take the ACT and $68 to take the SAT. We pay to do this and take extreme tests because we are afraid if we don’t, we are seen not as smart or our academic level is looked at differently each year (Eclectablog). Some people may believe that standardized testing is necessary and also has benefits. This is not founded in research. Some people may claim that these tests help teachers understand students better but the teachers no more about the students than a test does.
