As students sit at their desks for multiple hours straight their minds go blank as they go to answer a question. Numerous amounts of parents are letting their adolescents miss tests because they have to take them so frequently. The effect it has on the school isn't very positive. All across the United States students are being forced to take unnecessary standardized tests. Because students are being forced into taking these tests, the result is failure not just for students but also for the school. This is because teachers are only teaching what the students are going to be tested on, not what they will carry with them to adulthood. Some students are poor test takers. The students could be very bright but because they are being tested so much real world curriculum doesn't seem so important. Many teacher are only teaching what students are going to be tested on. In the article “Too Many Tests’ the author says, in other words teach to test and poor test takers are at a disadvantage.” When teachers teach to test it does not give the child a chance to show their ability of what they know. It also makes the child and the school look bad, even though they are bright. Rosemarie jensen, a mother and a leader of the United Opt movement said “my son, a ninth grader, is a good student, but a poor test taker.” Constantly having standardized tests does not show the validity of what the student knows. These test are a horrible way to see what a student knows. Standardized tests do not verify knowledge. When students do not do well on tests it could cause schools to be closed permanently, even though students know the material.Under no child left behind, schools had to show that the students made progress each year or the schools would face penalties.
