Short Paper: State and Federal Judges

Introduction

When comparing and contrasting the roles, qualifications, and duties of State and Federal Judges you will find that, although they sound like they are one in the same, but they do in fact have some differences. The primary responsibility in either case is that all judges must preside over the court to insure the law is applied correctly, and that the legal process flows smoothly. As such, judges must ensure that all parties involved in the proceedings follow the rules of the court, and must apply the law without any regard to public opinion, or personal indifferences about the case.
The Qualifications and Duties of State Judge’s

To become a judge in The State of Florida you must first decide to which level you desire to reach. All in all, the qualifications at any level of the State Court are mostly the same, except for a few small details. Some of the qualifications they all share are that you must be a registered voter in the state, must be under the age of 70 years of age, and must reside in your respected County, Circuit, or District. Federal Judges hear far fewer cases than that of State Judges, but the implications, and the magnitude of the cases are greater. State Judges have statistically more cases on their dockets, and deal with more “run of the mill” types of cases, but have more contact with the public. So, with all that said, my opinion is that Federal Judges have the more difficult job. The subject matter they deal with daily, the amount of people that their decisions affect, the scrutiny they face, and the burdens they must carry are the reason I came to my opinion.
