Description: The ISU Working Scholars Award will be awarded to students who can demonstrate they understand the value of hard work, and show evidence of motivation and the willingness to help themselves get through college with work, and to get through college with a minimum amount of student debt. Recipients of this award must have ISU sophomore classification by fall semester of the award year. The amount of this award will be equal to the cost of resident tuition. The ISU Working Scholars Award may be renewed for up to two additional years provided the student fulfills the scholarship requirements. An application is not required for the renewal year.

College has become that dream for the vast majority of young aspiring minds in today's society, but with time, has become farther from the list of possibilities for numerous people. Growing up in a low-income family, I was able to understand what the future had held for me at a young age, but it has allowed me to realize that people are not meant to follow their destiny, they create one for themselves.
Throughout my life, I have been developing a deep understanding in the value of hard work and the type of results it can bring. My personal motivation has been shaped by this bringing me the success I have had thus far. As Joseph Kennedy once said, “when the going gets tough; the tough get going,” and that is exactly what I have done with my life. In school, I was never the “intelligent” one and I struggled through most of my classes. My educational career has been filled with late night studying and spending numerous hours reading in attempt to gain knowledge. I never had the ability to get through school on my own, but my motivation to succeed became my best friend. It was the driving force in my work ethic, and ultimately led me to the top 6% of my graduating class. Hard work itself, displays value to the world, but it’s how you utilize its value that can change your life. This understanding grew with me as I went through Boy scouts, and have learned to apply it to the rest of my life. Boy Scouts had influenced my value of hard work because I acquired an unmeasurable amount of skills that shaped my work ethic and myself. Through eleven years of hard work, dedication, and willingness to endure against the almost impossible, my motivation helped me obtain the highest rank as an Eagle
