Creation strategy When determining the next steps moving forward and trying to fix any further issues it is important to remember what makes Steel works successful in the first place. This all stems from the two divisions, Custom Products and Specialty Products. Custom Products excels in putting the customer first in any situation and makes sure the products that are made are not made available to competitors. In addition to this, Custom Products maintains high inventory levels to guarantee expedited shipping which beats out the competition. Specialty Products however, provides a variety of different products to many different customers to match any need. For their second most popular product, the Durabend R12, one customer, customer 194 fills 97% of the demand. Clearly this customer needs to be better understood in order to accurately meet their needs and continue to provide good service. When we plot the demand for the Durabend R12 product, we see several peaks, especially towards the end of the year. From the inventory data, we can see that steelworks maintains a relatively consistent level of inventory throughout the year regardless of demand. In order to better meet the fluctuating demand, Steelworks should review if the trends in the demand are consistent year after year and adjust their inventory holdings accordingly for the R12 product. When we plot both the demand and inventory together it becomes very clear that SteelWorks is consistently undersupplied to fit their largest customers needs on their second largest product (by volume and profits). When you compare inventory to the demand across all product lines, you can see that SteelWorks consistently over stocks all inventory for the underperforming products and under stocks their 2 largest products (again by volume and profits). This suggests that something must be changed for their future
