In Susan Cain’s book, Quiet: The Power of Introverts in a World That Can’t Stop Talking she proves that introverts are vital to the world and everything typically thought of “the quiet ones” is wrong. She starts the book by introducing the idea of the introvert. This term is derived from psychologist Carl Jung who basically invented the personality test. When deciding on a name for different types of individuals, he called the more reserved people who gain their energy from being alone and are typically not very open introverts.
With my personality type for introversion that can bring me down. I may not be social in situations where I need to be and people may read me wrong. I know this is something I would need to work out and fix. A good thing about being introversion is I learned a lot by observation, reflection, and reading. So the employer does not really need to teach me.

Introverts tend to avoid situations that cause panic very quickly and thoroughly. Whereas extraverts are good at ignoring overwhelming feelings and can forget the ability to feel physically and emotionally, extraverts have a lower level of cortisol arousal compared to introverts (Edward, n.d.). Eysenck theory predicts that introverts require little to no external stimulation to reach an optimal level of cognitive performance, whereas extraverts require more external stimulants. Elvis has shown more characteristics of introversion, according to Sam Phillips, a record producer from Rolling Stones who said “He’s the most introvert out of all of them”.

As Cain divulges, introverts are put at a disadvantage from the moment they are born, throughout school, and into the workforce, not by any flaw of their own, but by a society that upholds what Cain calls the “Extrovert Ideal”. From kindergarten to office jobs, it’s safe to say that life in America (and other countries, mainly those in the West) is geared towards the gregarious.

On April 6, 2016, I watched the TED Talk of Susan Cain, a retired Wall Street lawyer and currently an author. She discussed that introverts and extroverts should be treated equally and that introverts should be given the same respect and acceptance as extroverts do. Specifically, she claimed that introverts are degraded for their characteristics and people should be more understanding of those traits because it does not make them any less than extroverts. As she said, “…the more freedom that we give introverts to be themselves, the more likely that they are to come up with their own unique solutions to these problems.” If introverts were given the opportunity to prove how smart or proficient they are, then they could bring great ideas to the table.
Being introverted can also lead to friends become distant as they may feel that someone who is introverted is not trusting since they don't share how they feel. The truth is, its not bad being an introvert. In fact, they should be proud that they are themselves in a world of extroverts. Because what would this place be without a variety of people. “‘Introvert’ isn’t a dirty word, or a character flaw to overcome”. So let the soft spoken people be soft spoken.
