If you are in a car passing a small road sign that has too much information on it, then it is difficult to read. Infographics compress and display this information in a visually pleasing way so people do not miss the message that is being shown on the sign. Infographics communicate complex data quickly and clearly, and they are considered to be effective worldwide. An infographic is a visual image such as a chart or diagram used to represent information or data to persuade, inform, entertain, and describe. Infographics have been used throughout history. The first known examples of infographics are hieroglyphics or cave paintings started in ancient Egypt 5,000 years ago. What are the common reasons infographics are used; you may ask? The first reason is to communicate a message. The second reason is to present a lot of data or information in a way that is compact and easy to comprehend. The last reason is to analyze data in order to discover cause-and-effect relationships. There are certain of elements that are used in the process of developing infographics. It consist of the visual, content, and knowledge. Visual elements are graphics, colors, and reference icons. The information on the infographic comes from many different sources and there are many creators of the infographic itself. The infographic is very informative to its viewers. It describes how we perceive our own beauty. The designers use statistics on self-image to be more effective. Some of the statistics include, “286,274 of women ages varying receive breast implants, men tend to spend more money on skincare products, 8,204 teens aged 13-19 receive some form of cosmetic surgery Also, and in the infographic it explains the absurdity of trends of what is considered beauty. It states, “Young girls in Ethiopia allowed the elder women to scar their stomachs.” Why? One of the ways of how they wanted to feel beautiful. The second way is that the young girls wanted to scar their stomachs so they can attract a future husband. Plastic surgery is very common in today’s world.
