The intention of this paper is to research and describe the internal and external environment of two real-world organizations (1.) Nike Incorporated & 2.) Johnson & Johnson Incorporated) using an environmental scan. In addition, this paper will determine what competitive advantages each organization has to include the strategy each is using. This paper will also discuss how each organization creates value and sustainability keeping its competitive advantage through strategy and what measurement guidelines each is using to verify its strategic effectiveness. By providing a path for the organization through planning out the Credo that emphasized the organizations plan starting with its leaders put this organization in front of its competitors at the beginning of their existence. Before becoming a publically traded company, in 1943 Robert Johnson designed what is known as the Credo, still acknowledged today. This Credo had become more than just a set of values or decisions; the Credo is a challenge for the organization that puts the well-being of others first, making the organizations successful. The Credo continues to talk about responsibilities where diversity is applied to the 128, 700 employees, throughout the 275 operating companies, within 60 countries globally. Johnson & Johnson’s organization establishes their process through relying on strategic planning to accomplish their short and long-term organizational goals and objectives. Johnson & Johnson use strategic planning by maximizing internal, as well as external opportunities for their organization, employees, employee families, and consumers (Human Capital). The organization continues to invest in their employees accepting participation through innovations and ideas submitted by employees.
