Student Affairs officials are ever-evolving; student administrators, faculty, and staff are creating ways to be creative in-out of the classroom. Indeed, challenges arrive while working tirelessly carrying the mission statement of the university framing it into their everyday work with students. However, challenges were stemmed from my position as a Step-Student Diversity Coordinator at the University of Wisconsin- Oshkosh. Many students of color predominately African American students struggled with the culture-shock of the University. The University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh is extremely conservative practicing the culture ethos for the majority of the student population.
The burden of the problems that students of colors faced left on the staff on Diversity of Inclusiveness Excellence. As an effort to create a sociocultural environment, jobs were developed to focus on diversity-related issues of students of color. My initial discovery of student affairs sparked by my involvement in academic affairs, I was a student leader of student organizations and many cases held committee chairs of academics. Providing the staff of academic affairs, the key elements that affect student’s grades. On a weekly basis, I informed the staff of ways to support students so students can make informed decisions and create goals to excel. As a student affairs representative; I observed the efforts across disciplines, departments, and staff accepting ways of doing business focusing on the pupils’ development.
