Study Habits to Learn to Test Successful Learning good study habits to test taking early on as a beginning nursing student helps prepare them for the critical thinking that is essential in becoming successful in the nursing field. The book “Test Success” written by Patricia M. Nugent and Barbara A. Vitale, is a good resource to start this learning process. The book teaches a student different techniques and how to imply these techniques in taking tests, learning how to study, and how to come prepared for a test. One of the first techniques taught is how to relax and have a positive outlook on how you view taking a test. It is as important to teach how to mentally and physically empower for a test as it is intellectually prepare. Starting with a positive outlook “I think I can” and “I will do good” are statements to help get you mentally ready for a test. Learning how to breathe and take deep breaths is a physical preparation for a test. Remember to relax and try imaging yourself in a happier place. Imaging myself in a happier place seems to not be a good technique for me. I tend to often myself doing something else and lose total concentration of the material that is in front of me. …show more content…

There are different cognitive skills in critical thinking, Interpretation- categorization, Analysis- examining and analyzing, Evaluation-assessing claims and arguments, Inference- results and conclusions, Explanation- results, and Self-regulation- self-examine. A person can also fall into different levels of critical thinking, basic, complex, and expert critical thinker. I find myself to be a basic critical thinker. Basic critical thinkers are building a data base. I can gather information and haven’t developed the skill to cluster data into categories and analyze the
