The Sugar Problem One of the biggest health problems and dangers in America is sugar consumption. Many people consume sugar well beyond there suggested intake. Sugar is being consumed mostly through different beverages and causes health problems many people do not want. Instead of grabbing the sugary beverage people are always used to, they will have to cut back or find some alternatives choices for the better of their health. Most sugar consumption comes from different beverages like soda, sports drinks, coffee, juice, and energy drinks. The sugar content in a beverage is based off of the size of the beverage. Consuming more than the daily suggested intake amount of sugar can lead to serious health problems. According to caffeineinformer.com, “The American Heart Association tells consumers to have no more than 6 teaspoons or 24 grams (women) or 9 teaspoons or 36 grams (men) of refined sugars each day” (“Sugar in Drinks”). For example, let’s say Bob has a Starbucks chilled coffee drink in the morning, in the afternoon he has a soda from McDonalds, and at night he has a glass of apple juice. Bob consumed almost around 100 grams of sugar just from beverages. If he does that every couple of days or daily he will be in danger of having serious health problems.
