In the article, “The Problem Is Guns” by Ryan Cooper, he discusses the recent mass shooting during the musical festival in Las Vegas. Throughout “The Problem Is Guns”, Ryan Cooper uses imagery, logos, and ethos to present the idea that gun regulation is the real problem in America. For example Stephen Paddock opened fire on the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay hotel across the music festival. Stephen Paddock killed a total of 59 people and injuring over 500, it was labeled the worst mass shooting in U.S. history.
Roger McGrath and Warren Burger provide different perspectives on the continuing debate over gun regulation in the United States. Although these authors establish opposing conclusions, both understand that gun related crimes are becoming increasingly common and therefore pose a threat to the domestic tranquility of the nation. Their controversy is centered around whether or not increased gun restrictions will lower criminal activity. McGrath, in his article “A God-Given Natural Right”, argues that increased gun control will only disarm law abiding citizens leaving them defenseless therefore providing incentives for criminals to break the law. However, Burger’s emphasis on the unrestricted distribution of firearms in his article “The Right to
Over the course of history humans always been in war and somehow found a way to kill one another. Weapons have become more and more deadly to the point where we have weapons that can kill less than a second. These weapons are called guns and they have been one of the most controversial subjects in history. Many people think their should be a ban on guns and their are those that think otherwise. Molly Ivins, the woman who wrote “Get a Knife, Get a Dog, but Get Rid of Guns” supports knifes over guns and says that guns only kill but, her essay is put together poorly because of constant use of verbal fallacies such as hasty generalization, oversimplification, and even either-or fallacy.
“Some firearms are stolen and gun restrictions do not help at all with this”
On the issue of gun control, I had always thought along the lines of opposing or supporting the issue but had never thought that there could be another argument different from these two main ones that could be discussed. It was therefore quite refreshing to look at the issue from Novak’s point of view. The fact that he provided evidence to support his claim that law enforcement has worked before in reducing gun violence cases made his article all the more interesting and believable. He shows that the debate on gun control may just have been pointless all this time as the issue that should be discussed is really not whether people should have guns or not but rather how to enforce the law to ensure that perpetrators of gun violence are
In today’s society, one of the most alienating issues in American politics is gun control. More specifically, the issue is whether or not guns should be banned in the United States. Some people would say that guns should be banned because it would reduce crime as a whole and keep citizens safer. These people, enthusiasts of stricter gun laws, fear being safe in their country where there are so many people who have access to guns. Opponents of this argument, however, also fear losing safety.
"The problem with such [gun control] laws is that they take away guns from law-abiding citizens, while would-be criminals ignore them." Most can agree that, with gun control laws make it hard to own a gun and with such few people owning guns, criminals can’t steal guns. On the other hand, gun control laws don’t make it impossible to own a gun, therefore guns can still be stolen. “Even if the gun owner had a permit to carry a concealed weapon and would never use it in furtherance of a crime, is it likely that the same can be said for the burglar who steals the gun?”
Not just “Criminals” Gun control has become a serious problem that The United States of America is facing today. Many people do not know how to control a gun and are not conscious of the lamentable effect that a gun can develop. “Many people have been saying for years that guns are inherently bad objects for a plethora of reasons”(Alex. C). The gun control issue is a controversial topic and many individuals have a different perspective about gun control.
Gun control laws have been a hot and controversial topic for some time now. Many different parties have argued with each other about applying laws that will control firearms in the U.S. I chose to write about this debate because I do not have a personal opinion on the matter, I do not own a gun or am an enthusiast, neither do I argue for gun restrictions. Many argue with points that it is written in our constitution our natural right to bear arms, while others argue that if we remove the ability to use a firearm or a weapon that is designed to kill someone, we will ultimately reduce or remove violent crimes in the U.S.. An article that argued for strict gun control demonstrated many of the author’s ideas through statistics and data, however,
Is it not fair that the government is trying to take away guns from the law abiding citizens of the nation? Did you know that more than 2.5million citizens per year use guns for crime deterrence, prevention and protection. Since 1968 more than 1.3 million americans have died from gun violence. "Two out of every three homicides are committed with guns. "States president johnson back in the 1960’s.
Gun control is necessary, and delay means more death and horror”. We as a nation need to think about the dangers that guns convey in this society. We need to think about the safety of our children, and not in the economic gains. I know this is a nation whose one of main incomes comes from the selling of arms, however, is money more important than a human life? Guns should not have the destiny of life in his trigger, no.
The issue in this article is that It is time to ban guns, all of them. The conclusion on the issue, according to the author is to get rid of guns everywhere, even with the police to stop violence from happening. The reasons listed by the author are, that If guns get taken away from the masses in the United States, then there will be less crime. Finally he also said that other countries don't have guns among their population, and Its working great for them. It will also make future generations less violent.
Not all guns are used for crime or self-defense, some individuals own guns that they use for hunting or sport and it isn't right to take those guns away because of the very small population of gun owners that will use their guns to harm another individual. Only a very small percentage of gun owners intend to commit a violent crime with their weapons, but even with that small percentage we as citizens have the right to own a gun due to the second amendment, the second amendment was intended to protect all able-bodied men so that they could participate in the militia to keep the peace and defend the country if needed, we don't need civilians to defend the country, we have a military to do that for us, but civilians should be allowed to defend their town, city, neighborhood, etc… and keep the peace in these areas if needed, how do you expect them to do that if you take their guns away from them, if someone wants to help keep the peace they need to be allowed to obtain the tools to do that, that includes assault rifles, bump stock, high capacity magazines, these guns/mods seem scary but if we have people with open carry licenses walking around with these things, the criminals will get scared too and they won't want to attack/rob anyone in fear for their own
They have recently reduced what and how people can own firearms by ordering further background checks, limiting the amount of ammunition a firearm can hold, and limiting the available accessories for firearms. The recent rise in gun-control activism is boasted mainly on the recent rise in public shootings. A question to be asked through all these limitations is one, do they work and two, are they even necessary. The answer to the first question is best put by dailycaller.com, “[No] safeguard has stopped criminals from doing what they do—break the law.” The second one can be answered in a matter of statistics, according to dailycaller.com as well, “less than 9 percent of all guns obtained by criminals… came from retail outlets.”
Guns are just a tool, like knives and hammers and it completely depends on the people on how they use it. People who support guns and arms say that the Second Amendment secures individual’s right to carry guns with them and that gun rights is needed for self-protection, and was intended for military to have peace and defend the country if needed (Spitzer, 70). Most of the Americans use guns as a source to protect themselves and they believe that gun ownership prevents crime. A study conducted on November 26, 2013 showed that bans on weapons did not significantly affect murder rates at the state level (Lane, 5). Moreover, even if the rules and regulations are executed on gun control, not all criminals obey the law.
