Mary Shelly’s Novel Frankenstein is a story of a scientist and the consequences of creating life. The novel starts with Captain Robert Walton on a ship in St. Petersburg, Russia. He's waiting for a ride so he can hire Russian men to help him sail to the North Pole. The boat gets stuck in ice that is hundreds of miles from land because of that the ship cannot pass through. Because he is stuck on the ship he starts to write letters to his sister that is in England. While writing his letters he talks about how he wants a someone to keep him company. Walton’s sees man riding on a dog sled in the snow. The man who gets on the ship is Victor Frankenstein. When Victor turned fifteen he left home to go to college. At college, he decides to study natural philosophy and chemistry. While being in college for two years, he figures out how to bring a body made of human corpse pieces to life. When his creation is done he's terrified by his own creation. He doesn’t want to be around the monster because he is scared to look at is and he is afraid of what other people will think. This causes Victor to be sick for months while his friend Henry Clerval nurses him back to health. In Victor’s hometown his younger brother, is murdered. The Frankenstein family servant, is accused of killing him. Victor thinks that his monster is the person who murdered his brother. He knows that no one would believe him so Victor is afraid to even tell people what he thinks. Even when the servant Justine is killed Victor. Victor is in so much grief that he goes on a trip to the Swiss Alps for some time to himself. During his trip he comes in contact with the monster, who confesses that he did the crime and starts to tells Victor this story .When Frankenstein left he was alone and ugly.
