In the novel, Unbroken by Laura Hillenbrand, Louie is tortured by being dehumanized and isolated while being a POW. The text states, “Louie said something to Phil and immediately felt a boot kick into him...” (page 181).
Sarah Koenig's Serial based upon the murder of Hae Min Lee and the investigation and legal proceedings that followed the murder. The primary suspect during the investigation, Adnan Syed, was eventually found guilty after a mistrial and has since spent his time in prison with an impeccable record. Both Adnan and Hae were outstanding students involved with various extracurricular activities and were generally considered friends, even after they broke up. Hae ended the year long relationship under what seemed to others as amicable terms. The primary motive the investigators presented was that the murder was simply a crime of passion.
Allied Old English is faced with the problem of having to pay slotting allowances of approximately $250,000 to obtain supermarket shelf space for Sorrell Ridge in order to expand into the California market. Under this introductory marketing plan, Sorrell Ridge would have to distribute 2 million 50 cents off coupons through inserts in LA newspapers and launch a new product, boysenberry conserve. In return, Bromar would be committed to securing distribution in stores for 90% grocery volume within three months of introduction. Allied desired to be the first to enter the California market with an all-fruit product line ahead of its competitors J.M. Smucker and Polaner.

For my book, I decided to read Simon vs. the Homosapien’s Agenda by Becky Albertalli. I chose to read this book because its topic of coming out of the closet hits very close to home for me, and I saw the trailers for the movie, and became very interested. The book centered around the coming out story of 17-year-old Simon Spier. Early in the book, he starts exchanging emails with an unknown person at his school known as Blue. Soon, things turn sour for him when he accidentally leaves his emails with Blue up on a school computer, where Martin Addison takes pictures of them and threatens to out Simon if he does not help Martin get Abby Suso, (one of Simon’s best friends) to like him.

I read 2 very different books this summer. I read “Death Cloud” by Andrew Lane, and “The Outsiders” by S.E. Hinton. I enjoyed getting to know the character and their morals in the different books. Both book had very different time frames, very different neighborhoods, and very different people. I enjoyed getting to know the gang’s idea of family in “The Outsiders.”
William Pollard famously said, “Without change[,] there is no innovation, creativity, or incentive for improvement” (qtd. in Lairmore 1). The film, Dial M for Murder, was first produced in 1954 and was remade in 1998, called A Perfect Murder. While there are similarities and differences between the two films, both are different when considering about how people view the social relationship and how people are seen in the society, as well as the expectations toward one’s partners.
