In the novel, Unbroken by Laura Hillenbrand, Louie is tortured by being dehumanized and isolated while being a POW. Throughout the book, Louie is being treated poorly by his captors, but resisted giving up. One example is in chapter 17, Louie was being transported to a camp and is put on the ground. The text states, “Louie said something to Phil and immediately felt a boot kick into him...” (page 181).

In the article, “Against Antiheroes”, Laura Bennett demonstrates the characterizations of an antihero, while providing information that allows the antihero to be depicted as prevalent. An antihero is defined as a person that does not possess heroic attributes, and may be seen as selfish, corrupt, or sullen. Antiheroes usually tend to acquire the sympathy of another individual, causing them to become relatable, as seen as Bennett writes, “‘Antihero’ implies that a character encourages a conflicted sympathy; Walt forfeited our sympathy long ago” (472). I read Unbroken by Laura Hillenbrand, which gave me a new perspective regarding World War II. Unbroken was written from a soldier’s point of view, which inspired the reader and caused empathy towards the soldiers who were the victims of war. Silvie Zamperini or “Louie” grew up running from trouble and home. With help from his older brother Pete, Louie stops running from the law and starts running from his opponents as he develops his skills in track and field. Louie is no longer viewed as a criminal but a fast athlete with a bright future.

In her world, Cinder is considered different from everyone else because she was a cyborg, and she is constantly mistreated because of it. There is also a Council that is made of the best superheroes or Renegades, all around the city that this book takes place in and the son of the top two Council members is Adrian Everhart with their leadership skills and the ability to make whatever he draws come to life. There are also villains in this world of heroes called the Anarchists and within these villains is the niece of the formerly ruler of Gatlon City during the Age of Anarchy.
This fantasy book, by Jennifer Lynn Barnes, is a story about Kali D’Angelo who hunts unworldly creatures such as demons, hellhounds, and other creatures every other 24 hours. In the book, Skylar was definitely a minor character who had major effects on Kali and the decisions she makes. At the beginning of the story, Kali was lonely and did not care to have many friends at school. She did not bother to have friends because she thought they might not understand her killing demons. This kept her distant from others until Skylar came along.

The title of the book originates from the Thunderhead, an AI that holds all the information known to humankind and aids every human in the world except for Scythes, people who must kill, or glean, to prevent the population from growing too large. Because of the multiple characters, the perspective often changes, meaning that the book takes place in multiple areas such as North Merica and Endura. The book revolves around Rowan, also called, Scythe Lucifer, and Citra, now called Scythe Anastasia, and their lifestyles.
