Research has shown that parental social control improves youths’ sleep habits (Maume, 2013). Without regulation and supervision of parents, it is likely that these students would not have self control to have regular sleep hours, leading to poor sleep quality. MACRO-LEVEL ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS Macro-level environmental factors are often undervalued in terms of their importance in affecting how much sleep we get.
I believe that sleep needs to be appreciated because the benefits such as revitalizing the body and, its cells, also the ability to understand complex information with more sleep is another benefit, and sleep promotes a positive response in mental health. Usain Bolt, an eight-time Olympic Champion and 11 times World Champion, regards sleep as the most important part of his training regime. I have recently established issues with my sleeping pattern, due to waking up earlier to train and doing homework late at night. This decrease in my sleep duration has affected not only my mood and productivity at school but has made me more tired and lethargic at my sports training. I, therefore, chose to look at my sleep quality and duration and how that affects my health. I hoped to improve my sleep quality and duration by implementing sleep-inducing activities or mechanisms that are linked to health benefits.
Sleep deprivation is the lack of sleep needed to function to full potential. While college is known for staying up all night, and cramming for exams, this term of sleep deprivation is starting to take a serious toll. Over the years the sleeping patterns of students attending college and universities has changed dramatically. Studies show that as time goes on the average night of sleep students are getting is decreasing drastically (Jensen, 2003). The way students are falling into this lack of sleep are by forming an irregular sleep-wake cycle, which consists of getting little to no sleep during the week, then on weekends catching up on all the missed sleep.
I personally believe that physical exercise does impact on one’s quality of sleep. These findings of the research are relevant because: • This research indicates whether or not physical exercise should be a compulsory activity for school students. • New discoveries and findings will motivate students as well as adults to exercise more. • The interrelationship between sleep and exercise will perhaps help prove and reinforce the desirable effect of healthy sleep patterns as a result of physical exercise.
As you get older, your sleep becomes less satisfying and less restorative. And, in the fast pace of life, it means adults are sleeping less than before. Sleeping patterns help in your general health as well, other than your age. Women also experience unique disruptions in sleep throughout their adult lives, especially during pregnancy, motherhood, and menopause, as all of these play a role in the quality of rest.
When I get a full eight hours of sleep my body feels energized and ready to take on the day with no crashes, no disorientation, and no foul mood. Whereas when I get little to no real sleep during the night, or I manage to nap during the day and stay up into the late hours I find myself tired in the morning, easily annoyed, and malicious. I found it interesting that I woke up as often as I do during the night, and also find it interesting that despite the amount of times I do wake up during the night, my body seems to be able to easily fall back into sleep even after I’ve stayed up more than fifteen minutes
