Michel de Montaigne once stated in the article “The Profit of One Man Is the Loss of Another”; […] no profit whatever can possibly be made but at the expense of another, and that by the same rule people should condemn all gain of any kind whatsoever” (Montaigne 235). In simpler terms, Montaigne is saying that men gain benefits from others’ misfortune. However, this statement doesn’t hold complete validity because teachers are a direct contradiction of Montaigne statement. Some teachers rely on students’ success for them to be successful, like mutual dependency. While other teachers selflessly teach for less pay and longer hours.
First, teachers with successful students garner so much pride. Additionally, they develop a stronger reputation, which in turn leads to more opportunity for the teacher. However, the students also obtain an education and also develop key life skills which will help them later on in life. This relationship is called mutual dependency.
Moreover, though teachers do make money, they do that through the means of helping their students.some teachers show true selflessness towards their students. Teachers are going above and beyond to not only teach their students how to read, write, and do math, but also to be their moral compass and how to thrive in society.
