The book, The Scorch Trials by James Dashner is the second book to the Maze Runner series. The book is set in a dystopian world where there is a disease called the Flare that turns affected people into “Cranks,” which are people who act similarly to zombies. The Flare doesn’t come into effect immediately, so the people who has the disease slowly turn zombie-like rather than all at once. Scientists called the WICKED, run an experiment that uses kids to see how they react in terrible situations like these and it is the kids’ job to survive the harshness of the world and get to a safe haven. When the experiment started, one kid was assigned the role of the leader. His name is Minho and although the book never directly states that he takes the role of being the leader seriously, the reader can tell through dialogue that Minho really enjoys being the leader and has the characteristics of a corrupt leader, such as arrogance and too much pride. Later in the story, Minho and the other children stumbles into a Crank. The Crank’s name is Jorge and he starts talking trash to the kids, such as calling them weak and starts questioning them.
