In True Legend by Mike Lupica, Drew Robinson, basketball prodigy, helps Urban Legend Sellers find himself. Urban Legend Sellers was an amazing basketball player back in the day but at the apex of his career he annihilated his life at bars and drank away his problems then faked his death. Drew goes to a private school called Oakley. He plays basketball for Oakley and leads his team to overall success. The only thing Drew couldn’t seem to do was lead the team to a league championship. Every year Park Prep, Oakley’s rival school, would win it and the best player, King Gadsen, would regain his bragging rights. In Drew’s latest season a man named Donald watches him at all his home games and after the games he would tell Drew that his basketball skill is slapdash. Eventually, Drew gets fed up with Donald and confronts him at his house only to find out that Donald was actually the local basketball hero Urban Legend Sellers who was thought to be dead. …show more content…
Drew quickly agrees and promises he would tutor him as long as he could help him get better at basketball. Although, Urban Legend is older he helps Drew by teaching him new techniques, what to do, and what not to do. As Drew tutors Urban Legend and Urban helps Drew with basketball they grow closer, become good friends, and enjoy each others company. Drew really likes helping Urban Legend get back on his feet and getting his help because it made him feel good about himself and he couldn’t wait to beat Park Prep to get his revenge.
