As a teacher it is my job to make sure the minds of the children in my presence are stimulated daily. First as a teacher I must ensure that the classroom environment is safe, warm and inviting, is very important for a child’s development. If the classroom is warm and inviting, it makes the child feel safe, secure, less stressed and welcomed. Also, as a teacher I would have to make sure that the environment is age appropriate, and individually appropriate helps stimulate a child’s mind. Things like games and the curriculum has to be carefully planned according to the age group, because it helps children to achieve their developmental milestones. I also show them books that teach the children counting, matching and ABC. Children start to show interest in things, they learn new words, classify and explore more. I have setup a block shelf where the children can sort and classify blocks by shape and color. Another sample activity is singing songs on the circle rug. When a teacher sings everyday it helps the children to memorize songs, and learning new words. When the seasons were changing I had the children sing a “Fall Leaves Song” while throwing the different color leaves that they picked from the walk that we took. Last sample activity that I have the children participate in my classroom in order to promote brain development is playing the radio during periods throughout the day. It is played at drop off times, naptimes, and other times throughout the day , but especially during the transition times. It helps with difficult transitions and helps children to express their emotions. The children sing, jump and dance while the music plays and they have fun! Outside of the classroom one activity that I play with the children is “I Spy”, while taking a nature walk the children get to explore, classify, learn new things, use their sensory skills and expand their
