What profession would you like to have as an adult? Growing up I always thought I wanted to be an elementary school teacher. I’ve changed my mind through high school a couple of times. But I always come back to the idea of teaching.
My junior year of high school I started in the education academy. Last year we got the chance to, for a full day a month go to a classroom of a grade we would potentially like to teach if we did in the long run decide that teaching is what we would want to do. Last year I had the chance to be in a Kindergarten class, and at the time I was thinking that was the grade I would love to teach. I got accepted to a school out in Saint George, Utah that is about an hour and fifteen minutes from Las Vegas or about four hours from Salt Lake City. It is called Dixie State University, It was a two year school but in the early two-thousands changed to a four year school. Like I said before, i’m in the education academy and Teaching 2 class. Which has been giving me field experiences and hands on time with Elementary students. I feel like now this experience is giving me a head start on classes that I will be taking in the years to come as I go to Dixie State. Because we have learned things like bloom's taxonomy, E-portfolios and different ways to be an effective teacher. That college students who are majoring in education now have came in and talked to us about how they think that’s it’s great that we are taking this class now while in high school because they are learning all the same stuff and wished that they would have had a class like our to have gotten them better prepared for college courses. Dixie is very good at helping students succeed at their school. They provide their students with free tutoring and one on one help which would help me with achieving my goal. There is a preschool on campus that students at dixie who are majoring in Elementary Education will be able to develop skills and get hands on experience with working with younger students.
