I am currently teaching at Swainston Middle School in North Las Vegas. Our student population is very diverse, including English Language Learners (ELLs). During this time as a teacher, I have served students with different language needs. It has been my goal to engage ELL students in my lessons as every other student. It is my opinion that as teachers we are all language teachers.
My student teaching experience at a tuition centre and as a private tutor has allowed me to gain practice in teaching students of different ages, from diverging academic backgrounds and across various subjects. I am comfortable with working with children, especially on a personal basis, where I can tailor lessons to the child and their individual needs at their specific pace. My work has kept me in close contact with qualified
In addition to my learning and achieving goals, I will expand my education to the fullest therefore I can be equipped and ready to teach when I earn my full Bachelor’s degree in Teaching. I propose to grasp exciting measures for my education as
What do you currently teach and where? I am a December graduate of the University of Charleston. I graduated magna cum laude. After graduation I began substituting. I substituted at a variety of schools in Kanawha County in a variety of grades.
Teaching is important to me because I feel that every child should have a place where they feel cared for and believed in. Since school is where most children spend the majority of their day, being a teacher is a perfect career to provide this safe place for them. I have had a passion for working with kids since my childhood and every year, that deepens as I watch more and more kids grow emotionally, as well as academically. I want to help students reach their potential in every aspect of their life while fostering their love of learning. With these motivations to become an educator, I have found myself resonating most with the Humanistic learning theory.
In regards to the principles of Christian education, I believe that students must be committed to excellence and extremely passionate about having a Christ-centered schooling environment as they strive for, attain, and maintain high standards. Curriculum developers must take into consideration that true learning and wisdom can only occur within a worldview that acknowledges that every square inch of creation belongs to God. As teachers teach, they must be highly qualified and passionate about Christ and Christian school excellence. It is my belief that, no matter how hard one studied and capitalizes on the worldly aspects of materialistic things; his or her life is not worthwhile unless God is the head in all the plans that he wants to ascertain. Teaching and learning should be personalizes to prepare each student for God’s unique call to his or her life.
Throughout my eighteen years in public education I have learned that teaching kids is one of the most rewarding professions in the world. I truly believe that teachers make the most impact on creating a society that is positive and self-sustaining for not only this generation, but for many generations to come. We instill confidence and give students hope that with commitment, sacrifice, and a strong will to succeed that we can accomplish just about anything we put our minds and hearts to. This is why I teach and want to continue to be in the field of education.
As a student, our daily routine of going to class, studying, and doing homework becomes unexciting and repetitive as the semester continues. Although teachers put a lot of efforts into preparing, teaching and reflecting about their lessons, students do not always appreciate their teacher’s efforts due to an absence of a connection with their teachers and the atmosphere of their learning environment. I think it is important to establish an individual connection and relationship with each student to make the student feel like they are valued by the teacher. If a student feels like their teachers genuinely care about their well-being emotionally, and they have a relationship beyond teacher and student, it becomes very easy for a student to feel valued. I think teachers can establish such relationship with their students by knowing more about their hobbies, family and personal life, and to simply engage in small talk about the student’s hobbies.
I constantly refine my teaching practices to meet the needs of all my students. I continually reflect and develop lessons to support the needs of my students. I show this passion during my lessons and, in doing so, my students are excited and engaged. I share this passion with my colleagues by running trainings and workshops after school, specifically in mathematics and technology. Staff also seeks me out for help in these areas and others.
I wanted to teach wellness and health because I want to help people understand themselves and their body. My preferred path of teaching is to be a coach and a math teacher. I want to teach children how to take care of their bodies and how to live healthier lifestyles. My objective as a teacher is to put my students first and to be the big part of their lives and chooses. My students should expect that I have their best intentions in heart and will help them no matter what the circumstances.
To be the best educator I want to be, I believe in many aspects of teaching. One of many that I believe in is that every student can learn and wants to learn and everyone has a right to be educated. To do that, I would have to put an effort to make my teaching interesting and to use the curriculum guide to address some of the key factors that students are in need of learning. Also I believe that classroom should reflect the kind of society in which we want our students to live and lead by providing inclusive environment. Having the positive attitude is also the key to maintain positive classroom environment.
Reflecting on my educational and practical experiences, I appreciate the infinite influence that teachers have on children. I realise that children will take the skills and knowledge learnt in the classroom and use it throughout their lives. I know a teacher has to deal with many daily pressures and challenges, in the classroom. However, I feel I require the skills needed to deal with these challenges. As a teacher I hope not only to be an educator but a positive role model, whom the children can look up to and trust.
As an educator, I hope to create an environment to help my students reach their full potential through the sharing of ideas and strategies in a respectful classroom. Each student is unique and requires an environment that encourages him or her to learn and succeed. During my years as a mathematics student and tutor, I have found that competition, while encouraging to some extent, is the ultimate downfall of many students’ learning. Students focus on being the first one done and completely overlook the work that they are doing in their race to the finish line. I would like to provide a stress-free environment for my students.
As a dedicated lifelong learner, I will be committed to the profession of teaching and to the advancement of my school, community, and students, this will be achieved by continuing to educate
Growing up I had great teachers who not only taught me, but also inspired me to want to be an amazing teacher just like them. The teacher who inspired me the most was my year 2 primary school teacher who taught me various subjects including English, Maths and Science. She also taught me valuable life lessons such as the benefits of helping and inspiring others. Even though my former teachers have played a pivotal part in my inspiration to teach, my main influence would have to be my youngest brother who was born when I was 10 years old. I spent a lot of time with him and was able help him to develop his skills.
