Ryan, the author of “Computer and Internet use in the United States”, claims, “By 2000, about half of all households (51 percent) had a computer. In 2015, this percentage had grown to 79 percent” (3). The 2000-2009 period was one of the great technological advancements. During this time period, there were many great projects that took place. Some of these included The Human Genome Project and the many space projects that helped research other planets. During this time, most technology wasn’t evenly spread, so some households had one computer and others didn’t have any because they were clunky and expensive. The technological advancements during the 2000s allowed people to communicate with others from around the world and led to more scientific …show more content…

Dana Martens, the author of “All the Small Things”, writes, “It connected me to everything and everyone through invisible waves that created places in the air. I don’t know quite how to describe it really, a whole world that we could only see through these devices, a separate world that overlaid our own and made it so much more” (2). During this period of time, my people didn’t understand how phones worked and other sources of communication. This was the first time that many people had phones to communicate with each other from anywhere. Also, the introduction of technology like phones and computers to many people created a world that was apart from the real world. However, this technology caused some difficulties and worried others around the world. Martens points out, “Errors started popping up on other tools we use in this Internet world. There were even arrests and interrogations about some of the things that got shared. Later it got even worse” (3). When technology like the phone and the computer first came out, they were an amazing discovery and …show more content…

The truth is, no one knew what was wrong, and no one still really figured it out either” (3). Finally, as more technology came out, the more issues occurred and humans became more and more scared of what technology could do. Even though technology could be used for evil, it could also be used for medical research and to help those in need. The Human Genome Project is one of the stepping stones for technological advancements in the scientific community. The Human Genome Project allowed more medical discoveries to occur and to do this they needed new technology. Biblana Palao, from Veritas, announces, “For the HGP, this sequencing technology was adapted to manage a huge amount of DNA material. The strategy used was called ‘hierarchical shotgun sequencing’, which involves many independent steps” (5). The technology to finish the Human Genome Project wasn’t advanced enough at the time, so scientists had to problem solve and find ways to finish the project with the older technology. The newer technology helped with making this process faster and spreading the information
