What is genetic editing, and how is it changing the future? According to the National Human Genome Research Institute, genome editing is “a method that lets scientists change the DNA of many organisms, including plants, bacteria, and animals” (Genome Editing). This technology is lead to revolutionary way of potential ways of treating disease and organism. Some great new technology has arisen to help with genetic editing. One advancing piece of technology is the Clustered Regularly Interspaced Short Palindromic Repeats with the use of a cas9 enzyme (CRISPR cas9) technology. This new technology is allowing for genome editing in which scientists are essentially able to change targeted area of an organism’s DNA (What Are Genome). With these types of new technology advancing, there is much potential uses for this technology such as disease prevention, genetic disorder correction, and even physical and mental enhancements. Some researchers see this as an opportunity to end all disease, other may see this as a way to become genetically superior, while other may see this as designing the next generation of people. This technology, no doubt, can create a positive change throughout the world. We could see new food that is genetically better and efficient that could solve world hunger.
