1. Why do you want to be part of the Teen Leadership Program? By becoming a part of the teen leadership program, I would have the amazing opportunity to make a difference in my community, practice leadership and collaboration skills, and better myself as a person. This program would offer me the chance to give back to something that has given so much to me: my community. I have been a part of the Pulaski School District for 11 years and have been given many amazing opportunities through them. I would love nothing more than to offer and share what I have and can give! It isn’t, “what does it mean to be a leader,” but rather, “what does it take to be a great leader.” Anyone can be a leader if they are committed and passionate about their cause. A leader must be a good listener, kind, respectful, respectable, patient, and most of all humble. The greatest leaders in the world are able to accept, even in positions of power, that they are equal to all people. A true leader, does their work because they value the needs of the people, not because they desire praise or power for their doings. Leaders keep an open mind for change and improvement. Why, because they listen to people’s voices while maintaining a positive attitude. You may not always agree with people’s ideas or opinions, but there's always room for discussion when kindness and respect are used. I’m the oldest of four children in my family, and I’m always asked to be a leader and mentor to my siblings. For this I’m grateful, as they have given me great insight on solving disagreements. As a leader, one must also be social and approachable to others because they are to set an example of how to act. They must be able to “keep their cool” in stressful situations for the sake of others. Keeping a clear conscious is also very important because leaders must make difficult decisions that can influence long term projects. In turn, these long term projects can have large effects on the people, both good and bad.
