After examining the main character's state of mind from the “Tell Tale Heart” and based on his actions he is crazy. He is mentally deranged, demented, and insane. The young man killed the old guy because he had a cataract on his eye. He called it a “vulture eye”. The young man hated that eye with a passion. The young man wanted to slaughter the old man because of his eye. The young man look upon the old man while he slept which means he was stalking him. It took the criminal a whole hour to to put his head through the door. On the eighth night the old man saw the criminal in his bedroom. The young man couldn’t kill the old man until he opened his “vulture eye”. That is why the young man didn’t kill him in his sleep. When the victim found the young man looking upon him in his sleep, the old man opened his vulture eye. The young man grew furious as he gazed upon it. While the young man and old man were having a standoff in the room. The crazy young man said that he heard the old man's heart beating. He was actually hearing his own. The beating of the “old man’s” heartbeat made him grow even angrier. He said that the “old man’s” heartbeat was growing quicker and quicker. Meanwhile it was his own. During this time period, the young man pulled the large/ heavy bed mattress over top of the old man to kill him, “It did not vex me” he said. Once the crime was committed, he cut off the old man's head, arms, and legs and put them under the floor. Police officers came knocking on the door because a neighbor heard a shriek coming from that way. The officers had been deputed to search the premises. He heard a ringing in his ears, it continued and gained definiteness. He thinks that is was the old man’s heart beating. It grew louder and louder! He thought he was going to either scream or die. He ended up admitting the deed, because he couldn’t stand it any
