Julius Caesar was a Roman politician who is best known for his decisive role in forming the Roman Empire. He was born in 100 BCE and came from a wealthy, prominent family. As a young man, he rose to power quickly by skillfully leveraging his social connections. He became one of the most influential politicians in Rome during his lifetime, eventually being appointed dictator in 49 BCE.

The most notable achievement of Julius Caesar's lifetime was his role in transforming the Roman Republic into the Roman Empire. He was renowned for his tactical military brilliance and political acumen. He authorized construction of numerous monuments, temples and buildings all across the city, and built a network of aqueducts to bring fresh water to the city. He granted Roman citizenship to people from Gaul, Hispania, and many other conquered nations.
