The autobiography “American Sniper” by Chris Kyle, was an interesting topic to think about reading because of its peculiar topic. The book talks about the upbringing and life experiences of a man who was deemed “The most lethal sniper in U.S. military history”. This story provides a more detailed insight into the life of someone who is in the U.S. military. The story of Chris Kyle starts where he was born and raised, Texas. He grew up with his father which helped him develop a strong sense of duty for his country. He signed up for the U.S. military and is recommended to the Navy Seals, which is at the time a relatively new developed branch that trains soldiers to fight in the air, on land, and in the sea. He continuously develops himself during the duration of his life and has a very patriotic personality. Kyle had no previous experience in literature but he provides a detailed description of his life experiences while enlisted in the U.S. military as a navy SEAL. Kyle was so patriotic that he was willing to give his own life, “I would lay down my life for my country,”(pg.49) he said. Kyle fulfilled all of his duties as the sniper cover for his team to the point that it changed their attitudes about the safety of walking around without cover which led to an unfortunate turn of events. Kyle lived through his experiences and put them into words resulting in the “#1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER”. The story is told from a primary source and is told in a first-person point of view. In the story Kyle is continuously struggling while he is stationed in Iraq with personal issues. His wife,Taya, is distraught over his absence during their child’s life and is openly expressing it. He continues to fulfill his duties in his team, becoming well accomplished and skilled. Following his final tour in iraq Kyle decides that he will uphold his duties to his wife as well and does not reenlist. Instead Kyle remained in the U.S. where he supported his family and friends such as, Ryan Job, until Job passed from surgery complications because of his previous injury in which he lost both eyes during one of His and Kyles many near death experiences.
