Many kids and teens forget basic skills over a very long summer break. It can be hard to re-learn and to re-teach as a student and a teacher. I do believe that the current school calendar needs to be modified to meet the needs of my students. The current school year does not allow my students enough opportunities to unwind and recharge. Though many parents like the opportunities that a long summer provides (June to September), having year-round schooling would provide my students with continuous year-round instruction. For the students that I work with, if I taught them year-round, retaining valuable skills and academics may not be as big of a struggle, as it currently is. Many of my students loose a great deal of what is taught over the summer.
Should there be year round school United States should not require all public schools attend classes year round. The students will not like it. If United States require year round classes there will be no time for summer vacation, the school funds will cost more, and students will likely not try in academics. If schools require year round classes their will be no time for summer vacation for students and teachers.
Year round school should be an option for the families that need it. We shouldn't fully do away with traditional school and summer break. The traditional school year gives students the traditional summer break, this summer break allows for students to hit the reset button and recharge. Schooling is always a good thing but schools are still institutions.

Another issue many people have with year-round school is why spend all the time and money to change to year-round school when it's the same amount of time in school. Marquita S. Blades, Education consultant, and former science teacher in Georgia says that year-round students don't actually learn anymore because "Year-round calendars don't increase the number of days that kids spend in school. " While it would make sense that students are in school the same amount of time, they would learn the same amount, is actually not true.
