I do believe that the current school calendar needs to be modified to meet the needs of my students. The current school year does not allow my students enough opportunities to unwind and recharge. Though many parents like the opportunities that a long summer provides (June to September), having year-round schooling would provide my students with continuous year-round instruction. For the students that I work with, if I taught them year-round, retaining valuable skills and academics may not be as big of a struggle, as it currently is. Many of my students loose a great deal of what is taught over the summer. There is minimal opportunities to reinforce and keep up on previously learned skills over summer. Some parents do not have the recourses or are busy working, while their child attends camps or a form of daycare. …show more content…

Teachers, parents, and policy makers all have their own views of how long and how often students should go to school and I respect that, however I feel that if we kept students going to school year-round, we would see an increase in assessment scores. Not only would assessment scores increase, parents would not have to necessarily find daycare providers to watch their children all summer long, and teachers would not feel the direct pressure from administration and higher up, to have specific expectations met before summer break. As a teacher, I would feel I would have the opportunity to dive deeper within the curriculum and meet more standards/ expectations throughout the school
