How Long? Eliminating any sort of long break from school can improve a child's academic achievement. Over 2 million students in the U.S. attend a year-round schedule for school in around 3,000 schools and 46 different states. There has been debate for such along time whether or not schools should change their schedule to year-round, which year-round school started around the 1800’s. There is a 2% drop out rate for people in year-round schools. Year-round school should be every school's schedule. First off, students will forget important information over a long break. Every year when school starts up again after summer the kids who don’t read or do academic related work during the long break reading levels go down and they forget so much information needed for the next year. Adding to that year-round school can make breaks smaller and help your kid from having a “summer slide”. If year-round school was going on there would still be breaks but it wouldn’t be months that schools would be unoccupied. Also the schools are just wasting money for almost 3 months having schools empty and not being used. Year-round school isn’t wasting money unlike summer break because people still have to pay bills for the school even when it’s not being used. Additionally schools just rot away during the summer. So maybe if they are used during the summer then they will get more worn out and have to get
