Did you know that there are about 3200 year-round schools in the U.S compared to 33,600 private schools and 98,800 public schools? Well, I am here today to persuade you to believe that uninterrupted schools aren't the best idea for our school system. This is a needed topic to discuss because this is an upcoming idea that could be popular when we have to send our kids to school. One reason why 12-month schools aren’t the best is because of the scheduling. Year-round schools do not have a longer time-period for school, it’s just spread out more, according to Scholastic. Sometimes, you just have to get out and experience something to learn it; you cannot read it in a textbook or essay. Sure you watch a video on it, you can’t really learn something like that without trying. Some so-called facts about a year-round school aren't true. While some believe that students would benefit from year-round schooling, that’s not necessarily true. Some often believe that students learn less info during summer and with year-round school, students could learn more. But according to Paul von Hippel, students may learn less during the summer that are in regular schools, but students in year-round schools learn more in the summer and less throughout the rest of the year. This man also stated that the “year-round school doesn’t solve the summer learning setback- they just spread it throughout the year.” Besides that, some say that if students were in school year-round, that the students would have improved grades, which is not really true, as many areas that use the year school system do so because of overcrowding.
