Recommended: Philosophy of discipline in a classroom
I am emailing you today because I would like to interview to be a DSCI 302 teaching assistant for fall 2016. I have completed my online application, and my answer to the additional question is below. I would like to be a TA for this class because I have used the TA 's for both my DSCI 202 and 302 classes as a valuable resource and would like to be able to give back. Throughout both classes I went in and met with the TA 's routinely to insure that I understood the material fully and had the information necessary to be successful in the classes. I know several other people that have done so as well and we are all very grateful for the time they take to help make the material click.

Teachers get to know their students very well. Since students in middle school are going through physical, social, and psychological development that could affect their academic performance, it is important to have teachers who really get to know their students. Every learner has different needs and teachers need to take into consideration the individual learning needs of students in order to help them succeed. Since the four teacher share the same students they are able to discuss the needs of their student in order to develop strategies and programs that may help the student. This assures that no student falls through the cracks.
Immediately integrated into everyday life actions and choices was Palmer’s (2008) circle of trust concept as a leadership tool, which created a positive change in the relationships between administration, students, staff, and myself. Indeed, the circle of trust leadership approach “. . . provided me an opportunity to examine the classroom failure in a new light” (Ashpole, 2016b, p.2). Another positive leadership change was the realization that distorted assumptions influence learning styles, which led to a different teaching approach.
Instructional Leadership A principal being an instructional leader should establish clear goals, manage curriculum, assign resources, monitor instructional activities, and evaluate teachers performances in efforts to support student learning. There are many essential skills needed to be an effective instructional leader but these three skills I believe are priorities; evaluate and use resources effectively, communicate clear expectations for teaching and learning, and lead by example. An instructional leader should know, and be able to manage available educational resources effectively.
Although Harry Wong focuses more on classroom management and not the demographics of the classroom, him and Gary Borich both equally emphasize the importance of a positive and supportive classroom environment for all students. Wong declares,” It is the teacher – what the teacher knows and can do—that makes the difference in the classroom.” (81) Effective teachers provide all students with equal opportunities for learning by utilizing culturally responsive direct instruction, questioning and classroom management. According to Lewis (2009) in his book “Understanding Pupil Behaviour: Classroom Management Techniques For Teachers” mentioned that there are some effects if the teachers don’t know about the students’ characteristics such as stress and Post-Guru Syndrom. Teachers are the life-blood of school districts across the United States. They are masters of their specific grade-level content and work tirelessly to manage the learning and well-being of their students. Teachers are the academic leaders of the learning environment within their classrooms and collaborate with their students throughout the year in order to facilitate learning, and foster creativity and problem solving. However, over the last thirty years, teacher leadership has taken on a whole new meaning.
They are then forced to try to control the class which they are unable to do without disciplinary actions, making it way harder to teach. Class management is important because teachers will have more teaching time and it’s a time for relationship building. Stopping behavioral interruptions will allow more time to teach. Class management will also create a positive learning environment where students can state their own opinions without others bashing them for it.
Throughout my training, I implemented various strategies for engaging students in small groups and rigorous lessons. My role as a teacher is to communicate effectively, be respectful, and have self-worth and confidence. I did fear making wrong choices throughout this field experience. I set high expectations the students to achieve high goals. Teaching to me opened doors to many students’ lives.
Schools are the second place after home where students’ behavior and future educational success are shaped. At schools there are many elements or factors that can influence the teaching and learning process that may take place. Rasyid (2012) stated that there are four perennial truths that make the teaching and learning process possible to take place in the classroom. If one of these is not available, there will be no teaching and learning process, though the learning process itself may still take place, they are: (1) Teacher, (2) Students, (3) Material and (4) Context of time and place. All of them are related to one another.
Due to indiscipline situation students arrive late for class, are not punctual for the classes or simply bunk classes as the class is not very interesting or rather as a teacher we are unable to create interest in the class .This may be a result of lack of lesson planning .At times effective management of time is also overlooked. Non verbal cues like body language and communication skills also play a major role in making the class effective. Problems of Classroom Management can be overcome by being prepared for class, motivating the students, providing a comfortable learning environment, building students’ self esteem, being creative and imaginative in daily lessons. A teacher should not carry personal problems to the class by being impulsive.
