Becoming a contender involves great commitment for they are the ones who reach their hopes and dreams. Being someone is wonderful, but everyone has always started as a no one, simple skills are needed for a no one to become someone. The Contender by Robert Lipsyte has shown us that dreaming is creating a reality for our desires and dreams, it’s never too late to reach our dreams no matter what the circumstance, but to be a contender requires determination, ambition, and admiration. To be a contender involves determination, not everyone is determined to grasp their goal for they have the thought of never reaching their hopes and dreams. Determination is the key to lead someone to victory, as victory is the destination where everyone desires in this generation. “You conquered your fear. You worked hard. Mr. Donatelli explains that no matter what the challenge, everyone should rise up again because nothing in life comes easy. Ambition is what pushes people towards their goals, whether these goals are negative or positive. The more someone wants something, the stronger someone's ambition will be, and the harder people will work for it. Some may not realize they have an ambition, but if everyone has a goal, ambition won’t be far behind. Ambition is a desirable trait. “You should have your own mind, do what you want.” (Lipsyte Chapter. 13, 146) – Lou Epstein. Epstein explains that people have their own thoughts about a desire and has the willingness to strive for its attainment in achieving
