Abortion is a very controversial topic in today’s society; everyone has their own opinion on it. The biggest argument you see about abortion is abortion is the murder of an innocent being. Many people fail to realize that life begins at birth, not when we form inside of our mothers uterus. Many view abortion as the killing of innocent lives, however, human life does not begin until we are able to adapt, reproduce, etc. Personhood begins when a fetus is able to survive on its own. Fetuses are not independent, it is completely dependent on the body of the mother for life support. The fetus’ health is directly related to the mother’s health. Think about it, making abortion illegal isn’t taking away the right to abort. Abortion has always existed and it always will; on the street, in back rooms, using wire hangers, under all those unsanitary conditions. Unless a woman has the money to go somewhere abortion is legal and safe, she will subjugate herself to these dangerous “backroom abortions”, including maternal injuries and death. Access to legal, professional abortions will reduce maternal injuries and deaths that come from these unsafe, illegal abortions. In 1972, there were 39 maternal deaths from these illegal abortions, that number dropped to 2 when abortion became legal in 1976. Banning abortion is physically harming to women by leaving them with only unsafe options such as coat hangers, knitting needles, radiator flush, a woman inserting a leech in her vagina, throwing herself down the stairs, and hitting herself in the stomach with different items. These are just a few of the uncomfortable, painful, dangerous and deadly methods woman have used in replace of a safe abortion. Also, it is not safe to bring an unwanted child into the world just because a woman was denied an abortion. When it all comes down to it everything left up to the mother. Abortions come’s with pros and cons. Some may feel the good out ways the bad. Others my feel bad out way the good. I feel they are both weighed out evenly because the cons may lead to killing oneself or every bringing an unwanted child into the world. 9 times out of 10 the unwanted child will be neglected and or abused. Thats not only effecting one life thats effecting two lives. Pro’s my help innocent lives, for example a 15 year old girl was walking home from school. On her way home she was kid napped, beaten and raped by 2 men. She later found out she was pregnant. She didn’t know anything to do but an abortion. This was the only thing she could think of because she didn’t prepare for a child neither to she laid down willing to make the child. Maybe she taught about what if she did bring the child into this world. Will the infant be treated and taken care of properly, or will she be able to give the baby love like one need. With an abortion she will be able to know that she prevented a child from being abused neglected or even
