In The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time, father is the most influential character towards Christopher because he is warm-hearted and deceitful, which makes him a very complicated character in Christopher’s life; and as a result Christopher becomes more confident and independent.
Throughout the novel, The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time, father is characterized as a warm-hearted character towards Christopher. The first way that father is shown as a warm-hearted character is when he and Christopher are sitting in the living room when father states that he is sorry and wants to regain Christopher’s trust by spending more time with him. Father gets Christopher a baby golden retriever, which helps support that he is very warm-hearted and loves Christopher very much. As a result of father lying to Christopher so much Christopher learns to be independent and rely on himself more and more. The second way that shows father is warm-hearted towards Christopher is when the police officer took Christopher out of his cell at the police station and told him someone was here to see him. Christopher, “stepped outside. Father was standing in the corridor. He held up his right hand and spread his fingers out in a fan. I held out my left hand and spread my fingers out in a fan and we made our fingers and thumbs touch each other. . . It means that he loves me.”
