The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time by Mark Haddon tells the story of 15-year-old Christopher John Francis Boone as he navigates our confusing world with autism. I found Christopher’s way of viewing the world unusual. He tends to view emotions logically, which makes it hard for him to socially interact with others. I realized how sometimes, our emotions have more power over us than our logical reasoning. This book gave me a different perspective on humanity and about autism. My book club and I generally had similar opinions about the plot, which enhanced many conversations and connections within our book club. By listening to the opinions of others, I formed new ideas and understood the book better. Additionally, talking to others made it interesting to read the book as we brainstormed what would happen next. However, after I found out Chris’ dad killed the dog, I quickly lost interest and it was hard to finish the rest of the book. Having deadlines forced me to finish the book, but I did not enjoy the book as much as I thought I would. However, reading with a book group made it more enjoyable as we all had the same feeling about the book. I realized that I like talking about books, even if I am talking about books I did not like.
