The Diverse Nature of Psychology The field of psychology is of a diverse nature, which is apparent in the many divisions of the American Psychological Association, which is separated into four key theoretical perspectives; the psychodynamic perspective, the humanistic perspective, the cognitive-behavioral perspective, and the family systems perspective (Plante, 2011). Psychology tries to explain, predict, and describe different facets of human performance and also, to assist in changing an individual’s life. Psychology focuses on a variety of behavior using scientific methods; psychology has advanced as a science and is classified by subfields of specialty. The psychodynamic, cognitive-behavioral, and humanistic perspectives represent various perceptions of human behavior, each contributing an exclusive resolution to a psychological challenge, or an exclusive theory on human nature. Each of the main ideas highlights various facets of human behavior, such as the cognitive, social, spiritual, and unconscious aspects, which add to such behavior. The various perspectives and the coming together of these variations demonstrate the diverse nature of thinking among the human population. As no two individuals perceive an event in the same way, no two psychologists view every aspect of psychology the same.
