The Greenhouse Effect Climate Change

1203 Words5 Pages

The greenhouse effect is a natural process that warms the earth 's surface (The GreenHouse Effect Climate Change). The temperature of the earth is a balance between the heat it gets from the sun and the heat it radiates back into space. The atmosphere acts like an insulating layer and keeps some of the heat from the sun and heats the earth 's surface. The earth’s atmosphere is made up of greenhouse gasses. Greenhouse gases in the atmosphere-Carbon Dioxide, Water vapor and Methane. These gases allow short wavelength radiation from the sun to pass through to the earth’s atmosphere and the solar energy is absorbed by the earth’s surface and lower atmosphere shown in Figure 1. It is then converted to long wavelength thermal radiation and the earth …show more content…

While implementing panels, the source exploits large amounts of land. The construction of solar facilities on land forces clearing of trees which results in soil compaction or erosion. Also the need of alteration of drainage channels would increase erosion too. Also, when panels are not disposed properly this can lead to the leakage of hazardous materials. The cell manufacturing process includes a number of hazardous materials which are used to purify the semiconductor surface. These chemicals are commonly used in semiconductor industries. These chemicals include hydrochloric acid, sulfuric acid and nitric acid. These chemicals being highly concentrated, once left in the environment can be dangerous as the concentration level can be corrosive to the eyes and skin. In addition, the operation of solar facilities, and especially concentrating solar power facilities, involves high temperatures that may pose an environmental or safety risk. Unlike other renewable energy sources which can also be operated during night, solar panels prove to be …show more content…

It does not use any scarce resources such as water, it stabilises the economy as it does not use oil. Solar energy also favours economy as civilian pay lower electric bills. According to SolarWorld-USA, homeowners who install solar panels on their homes save an average of 50 percent off of their electric bills. “I refuse to condemn your generation and future generations to a planet that’s beyond fixing” - President Barack Obama(Climate Change). “Since 2005, the United States has reduced its total carbon pollution more than any other nation on Earth. Wind power has tripled, and energy from the sun has increased. President Obama has taken a series of common-sense steps to curb carbon pollution”(Climate Change). The civilians would have to pay a little more tax to the government to implement solar panels to decrease global warming and the enhanced greenhouse effect.
So lets summarize some wonderful advantages of solar power-
Solar energy can be used to heat water and even cook food
Solar energy can also be used to run solar-powered vehicles such as cars and even solar-powered aircraft.
Solar road studs are super luminous LED lights that store up energy during the day and can shine in the dark for over 100 hours.
Solar Soccer Balls are designed to give vision- impaired footballers a
